NHL donates 100 000 USD to Borje Salming ALS Foundation
The NHL, National Hockey League Players' Association and NHL Alumni contribute a total of $100,000 to the Börje Salming Foundation.
It's great that we get such a huge contribution from them. It is important for ALS research and it is important that we have their support,” says Peter Forsberg, vice chairman of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and board member of the Borje Salming ALS Foundation.
Peter Forsberg is often referred to as Swedish Hockey's Minister of Foreign Affairs and is involved in negotiating the contracts of more than 100 Swedish players in NHL clubs, as well as for other European players in the NHL. It creates an invaluable network of contacts both within the NHL and at clubs.
In February, Peter Forsberg was on hand during the NHL All-Star Game in Florida, among other things, to talk about the upcoming World Cup.
“I sat in a meeting and wore the foundation's Börje Salming shirt and told me that I sat on the board and that the foundation's purpose is to support research that slows and cures ALS, and everyone in the room listening.
And on March 31, Bill Daly, the NHL's deputy commissioner, announced that the NHL and NHLPA are supporting the Borje Salming ALS Foundation with $40,000 each and that NHL Alumni is supporting the foundation with $20,000, or $100,000 in total.
“This is a great contribution and it is also great that the three organizations have joined together to take up the fight against ALS. When you get sick, you feel like the loneliest in the world. A contribution like this creates hope that together we can stop and cure ALS.
