In early May Börje Salming ALS Foundation announced research grants for researchers associated with Swedish universities and colleges. The Research Portal has now closed and several promising grant applications for research within the field of ALS have been received.
Börje Salming’s ALS foundation aims to facilitate medical scientific research to increase awareness and improve treatment options for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS.
The foundation will contribute to spreading knowledge concerning amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS, and create initiatives to ease and support ALS patients and their relatives.
Börje Salming is one of Sweden’s greatest ice hockey players of all time and he had his breakthrough in Brynäs in the early 1970s. In 1973, Salming left Sweden for the NHL and Toronto, where during his 16 years he gained icon status.
Börje has recently struggled with his health. On August 10, 2022, he announced in a statement via the Toronto Maple Leafs that he had been diagnosed with ALS.
