It’s astounding that we receive such a large donation from them. It’s important for ALS research and also important that we have their support, says Peter Forsberg, vice chairman of Swedish Hockey Association and board member of Borje Salming ALS foundation.

Peter Forsberg is often mentioned as the ambassador of Swedish hockey and is involved in contract negotiations of about 100 Swedish players within NHL as well as other European players. This creates an invaluable network in both the NHL and amongst other hockey clubs.

In February Peter Forsberg was on site for the NHL All-Star Game in Florida partly to discuss the upcoming World Cup.

– I was in a meeting and was wearing a Borje Salming foundation sweatshirt and explained that I was on the board and the purpose of the foundation is to promote research inorder to halt the progression but also cure LaS and everyone in the room paid attention.

Bill Daly, NHL:s deputy commissioner, announced on the 31 of March that both the NHL and NHLPA will support Borje Salming ALS foundation with 30 000 USD and that NHL Alumni supports the foundation with 20 00 USD, amassing a total of 100 000 USD.

– This is a large contribution and it is also big that those three organizations have gone together in the fight against ALS. As you get sick you feel completely alone in the world. A contribution like this creates hope that we together can stop and cure ALS.
